Tulia is a contemporary house designed by architect Alberto Morell in Kenya. Located in Kilifi, the residential property blends harmoniously with the surrounding natural environment. The result is a magnificent home overlooking the Indian Ocean coast.

Tulia House is a luxurious, eco-friendly building fusing contemporary architecture and lifestyle, along with Swahili tradition.

The house’s most notable feature is its 9.90 meter wide staircase, from which a stunning view of the Ocean can be enjoyed. As the house is located along a warm and humid coastline, its natural ventilation was carefully planned. A small sweet water pool is located in the courtyard, which connects the ground floor and the upper floor.

On the ground floor you’ll find the home’s common areas: living and dining rooms, kitchen, and guest rooms. The interior space is configured with screens or diaphragms to establish a continuous space, a design that is characteristic of ancient Swahili architecture along the Kenyan coast.

The whole house is built with cheaper local materials. The main structure is made in concrete while the enclosures are made with coral limestones. Floors, walls, stairs, and other surfaces are finished in stucco, called Lamu by the natives, which is a very clean, soft, and resistant material.
